- Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center is an environmental education non-profit that operates out of the Opal Creek Wilderness and Scenic Recreation Area. Our base of operations is the old mining town of Jawbone Flats in the heart of the old-growth forest. We will be showcasing our educational programs at Opal Creek that include workshops, family workshops, summer camps and backpacking trips as well as educating the public about our sustainable methods of creating and using energy on-site (Jawbone Flats is off-grid and relies on hydro and solar power).
