Portland Multnomah Food Policy Council
Anita Yap Chair of the
Portland Multnomah Food Policy Council. The Food Policy Council is a 14 member
council, jointly appointed by the City of Portland and Multnomah County
Commissioners. Council members interests and expertise range from community
health, farmers, chefs, neighborhood associations, urban agriculture, food
retailers and food banks. The Food Policy Council is charged to address local
government policy, programs, operations and land use rulings related to the food
system and its corresponding impacts on community health and well
being.
Anita will engage
members of the current Food Policy Council and members of the audience to
discuss current and future food policy issues in the city and region and
emerging issues in state and federal food issues.
In her work as a land
use planner, Anita is working with communities to create school and community
gardens, farmers markets and providing healthy food to community members. She is
also working with local farmers to create markets, urban design concepts and
land use plans that support the local food system. Anita is an advocate for
social equity, community building, and is a mother of four and enjoys cooking,
gardening and eating. |
