Rex Burkholder
Metro Councilor
Metro Councilor Rex Burkholder For over 30 years Rex Burkholder has been working to protect what makes Oregon special, leading efforts to preserve our farms and forests, expand transportation choices and tackle climate change. Rex helped found the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and under his leadership, our region has gone from virtually no bike lanes to one with hundreds of miles of bike lanes. He also worked to establish the Coalition for a Livable Future, uniting more than 80 local organizations to advocate for sustainable growth policies. Rex was elected to the Metro council in 2000 and continues to represent District 5. For the past nine years, he has led efforts to expand light rail, bus services, bicycle and pedestrian lanes. Rex has been recognized for his tireless efforts on behalf of our community. He was honored as the Most Effective Citizen Advocate in 1998 by 1000 Friends of Oregon, and as a 1999 founder of a New Northwest by Sustainable Northwest. Rex also received a Special Recognition award from the Environmental Educators of Oregon in 2009, as well as the 1999 Alice B. Toeclips award from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. |

She holds an MA in environmental policy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a BA in economics from Lehigh University. When she’s not working, Andria can be found chasing her active three-year old, working in her garden or curled up with her nose in a book. |

Jana Gastellum
Oregon Environmental Council
Jana Gastellum is the Program Director for Global Warming at the Oregon Environmental Council. She leads OEC’s work to implement climate solutions. She previously served on the United Nations Foundation/Energy Future Coalition joint climate and energy team where she focused on domestic and international opportunities for clean energy development and the nexus between energy security, climate change and poverty alleviation. She helped launch the 25x’25 renewable energy alliance and built capacity within the agricultural and forestry communities around the role these sectors can play in a low-carbon economy. Jana also managed a soils laboratory that analyzed the impacts of climate change on ecosystems at the University of Michigan. She received a B.S. and M.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University. When she’s not working, she enjoys playing ultimate Frisbee, hiking, trying new recipes, and discussing books with her husband. |
