Energy Smart Home

offers ideas for inside and outside the home

This year’s Energy Smart Home at the Clark Public Utilities Home & Garden Idea Fair offers ideas for just about everyone—whether you want to reduce  our environmental footprint by making your home more energy efficient, learn about electric vehicle charging stations, or are considering investing in a solar water heating system. The demonstration home, built by New Tradition Homes, Vancouver, features the latest in home energy-saving technologies. For example, it has low-e, argonfilled Energy Star® windows, energy-efficient lighting throughout, a tankless water heater, a high efficiency furnace and heat pump, and a solar water heating system. The latest retrofit heating sensation— the ductless heat pump—also will be on display. They offer efficient heating and air conditioning without ductwork, so are the perfect replacement for homes with baseboard heat, ceiling heat or wall heaters.

The utility is offering a $1,500 rebate on ductless heat pumps installed through an approved contractor. Nearby, Clark Public Utilities energy counselors will be on hand to answer questions about how to save energy and help the environment. You can also get information on the utility’s refrigerator and freezer recycling program that offers a $30 bill credit for recycling old, but still working, appliances, plus a $25 instant rebate on new Energy Star® rated refrigerators or freezers purchased from participating retailers.

Also, join Clark Public Utilities, KINK.FM and PSC Environmental Services for a special CFL recycling event at the Home & Garden Idea Fair April 29, 30 and May 1. Collection containers will be located at all fair entrances. While supplies last, Clark Public Utilities will give you a voucher for a new CFL bulb for up to six CFL bulbs you recycle. You can redeem vouchers at the utility display area inside the Exhibition Hall.
