2012 PARTICIPANTS BELOW
MUSICAL PERFORMERS
 |
Belinda Underwood
Saturday March 24, 4:00 pm
I'm a Portland-based professional
musician with very unique offerings. In Portland and on tours, I play and sing
my original music about organic farming, sustainable living, love, world peace,
the Earth, animals, human evolution, philosophy etc. I sing while playing the
baritone uke and the keyboard bass pedals (like organ pedals) with my feet. I
have over 3 hours of original material, more if I do covers of my favorite
songwriters. The music is hard to describe but it's folky, bluesy, old-timey,
and some people have called it "Americana".

Tara Williamson

in 2007 to pursue music and all the great NW has to offer. A life-long musician,
Tara has developed an equal affinity for jazz and folk music and has a unique
style of singing/songwriting encompassing both. She credits the beautiful
landscape of Northern CA, her folky roots, and her obsession with Jazz from the
first time she heard it for her unique style.
Tara recently joined the
female harmony group "Signatures" and enjoys performing frequently at Tony
Starlight’s Supper Club and Lounge, Orenco Station Grill and is the female vocalist
for the Bureau of Standards Big Band! |

Tamara Adams -- Acrylic on canvas
http://www.artfulbliss.com
A Native Oregonian, Tamara
paints primarily acrylic on canvas. Continuously evolving, she relies heavily on
her imagination, without models or reference books and few outside influences.
Tamara began painting exotic themes long before she had been exposed to great
artists such as Gauguin and Rivera. Painting has always been her way to escape
the ordinary aspects of her life, doing what she loves and believing in the
power of art to comfort and enrich the soul.
Tamara's portrayals of women
are warm, whimsical, and reflective. The exotic imagery and deep resonance of
color capture the eye and the imagination. In Tamara's words, "It doesn't seem
satisfying to say that I paint what I see, and yet it is what I see, wherever I
go, whoever I am with, along with the things that surround me inspiring me to
paint" |
 |
Sienna Morris -- Numberism
Sienna Morris
paints with the numbers of Math and Science. She illustrates the makeup of what
we observe everyday. Through her love and dedication to learning, Sienna has
found an original outlet for this work. Her process includes hours of research
and the exploration of a subject, which then becomes her inspiration to
create.
Sienna’s work, similar to Pointillism, relies on smaller elements to
make the whole image complete. Using the advantages of detail and patience,
Sienna is capable of changing someone’s opinion about the value of both sides of
their mind. |
 |
 |
April Kline -- Acrylic
During a visit to the
Metropolitan Museum, April Kline became interested in Indian and Middle Eastern
miniatures. She began painting very small, detailed images on sheaths she had
made for her Tai Chi sword. Eventually April moved on to painting larger
canvases and images, but size hasn’t mattered. Although the style and stories
vary widely, her paintings remain amusing, imaginative, ambiguous, and narrative
in nature. Her colors are bright, rich and deep. April’s early work was featured
on Oregon Art Beat in 2007.

Julie Jetton -- Photographic minatures
http://www.juliejetton.com
I started out shooting straight 35mm black & white film way back in
8th grade. My camera was portable and it was fun to shoot just about anything
that inspired me. I loved looking at the mundane in different ways. It was also
completely manual which taught me how to really use shutter speeds and apertures
to my advantage
I still love working in the darkroom
and I will always love the richness of a photograph printed on fiber paper.
There is something about the rich, velvety appearance of it that just can't be
replicated. I use digital processes to help create the final presentation and
editions from the original prints.

Renee Johnson -- Watercolorist
Renee' lives in rural Oregon City and has been painting since
she was around 12, finding her passion in watercolor over ten years ago. A
member of The Oregon Watercolor Society since 2008, she has been accepted into
two of their shows and has hung in the Visual Arts gallery in Gresham. Although
she enjoys painting florals for fun, her favorite subjects are portraits and
animals, and does commission's of them for clients on a regular basis.

Susan B. Schenk -- Collage
www.susanschenk.com
My art is an invitation to see
beyond the apparent. From a distance, my collages appear to be paintings. Up
close, they are complicated jumbles of separate parts. These collages are
similar to our own lives; appealing when viewed from afar but somewhat
surprising when inspected more intimately.
My use of discarded materials
as paint fosters the idea of finding beauty in the overlooked. I discover line,
color and form hidden in what others toss away. By transforming magazines, maps
and other ephemera into appealing images, I leave a small carbon footprint and
more importantly, carve out a trail of enjoyment for others to travel.
I’m exploring variety of subjects to create joy. My intention is to take
on the challenge of rendering realistic images using unconventional materials.
I create images in intriguing ways to compel a viewer to look more closely. When
my work evokes a smile, I deem it a success. |

Diane York -- Watercolorist
I am a transplanted Staten Islander and have lived in the
Portland area for
over 30 years. I have been painting for
15 years; I am a member of the Oregon
Society of Artists (OSA) and the Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO).
My
work has been hung in several of their shows, including the
upcoming
WSO Spring show.
For the last few years I have been using Yupo paper for
my
watercolors. Yupo is a synthetic paper with no absorbency,
which
creates many challenges and provides a creative
freedom. |

ABOUT SWAN DAY AND THE FUND FOR WOMEN ARTISTS
The first SWAN Day took place in 2008 on the last Saturday of March, Women’s History Month, and was observed with over 160 events in 11 countries. It serves to unite women artists with their audiences and supporters, and to create a powerful alliance to ensure women’s voices are heard. “The focus of this day is to celebrate the women artists who are creating change in their communities and around the world", said Martha Richards, the co-founder of SWAN Day.
The annual, world-wide event is organized by The Fund for Women Artists, a San Francisco based non-profit arts organization that offers networking, fundraising and advocacy services to over 500,000 visitors a year. It is founded on the belief that women artists have the power to change the way women are perceived in our society and is dedicated to helping women artists get the resources they need to do their creative work.
