Rain Gardens and Rainbarrels

rain garden at Woodward Gardens

The newest addition to Woodward Gardens is a rain garden that filters the runoff from our outdoor classroom before it gets to the wetlands to the east.

Native plants are used as natural filters as well as gravel, sandy loam and river rock.  Technical advice and equipment was provided by www.gardensforfun.com

The outdoor classroom has two rainbarrels attached to the gutters on the west end.

These rainbarrels were provided by

The Rainbarrel Man who we met at the

Energy Trust Better Living Show.

Diverters are attached to the gutters and send the water into the rainbarrels until full.
