Chef Chat Mingkwan
Chat Mingkwan was born in Thailand and grew up among the culinary expertise of his mother and aunt, who operated a successful restaurant and hotel business. At his young age, cooking was his daily routine and later became his passion. He graduated with an Architecture and Design degree from California State University and worked in the field as a kitchen and restaurant designer. Chat was always drawn to cooking and finally he followed his passion by seeking an apprentice and training for the provincial cuisine of France in Rayon. He worked in the food business both as a worker and proprietor for fifteen years. Not until he relocated to the bay area did he realize that his skills and native culinary background were in high demand. To expand his repertoire, he traveled extensively through Southeast Asia and familiarized himself with the local cuisines. Presently, Chat teaches cooking classes in various subjects throughout the bay area. He also consults in the food and restaurant business, conducts team-building events and instructional parties, and leads pleasure plus culinary trips to Thailand and Southeast Asia. His cookbook “Best of Regional Thai Cuisine,” “Buddha’s Table” (Thai Vegetarian), “Homestyle Thai Cooking”, and “Thai cakes and Desserts” are in the market. He runs a food and traveling business of www.unusualtouch.com.
