The Urban Farm

Think "City" and "Farm" can't go together? The Urban Farm will show you how to eat veggies from your own garden all year long, and enjoy your very own clutch of chickens along with fruit grown in two dimensions! A domestic stone fountain provides a water source to attract pollinators and a grove of bamboo provides stakes for the garden. Composting station and chicken yard fill out the farm yard’s fundamentals.

The winter garden contains Jerusalem artichoke, a type of sunflower with edible tubers, which are best when kept in the ground until needed. Other plants wintering over to get an early jump on warmer spring weather include purple-flowering broccoli, leeks, and garlic.

The spring garden has been hooped to provide greens throughout the winter and into early summer. Examples include Swiss chard, spinach, biennial celery, and radishes.

The summer garden is ready for beans, beets, and onions. Fruit types include mixed grafts of espaliered pear and cherry varieties, blueberries and pineapple guava.

Disfrute!

The B.Y.B.

What if you could have the convenience of a home office or work studio — but without all the distractions? What if your private workspace had windows and French doors to let in the light and look out into a calming garden?

With a Back Yard Building from Structures NW, it is now possible! See how it all comes together by visiting our feature at the Better Living Show, where a 12-by-16-foot model Back Yard Building sits amid a lush garden designed by Winterbloom.

A Back Yard Building is much more than a shed.  It’s an affordable, fully insulated stand-alone structure that homeowners can build on their property and equip with electricity and a heating/cooling system. Extremely energy-efficient by design, Back Yard Buildings are built using structural insulated panels (SIPs).

Back Yard Buildings are perfect for telecommuters, consultants, working artists, massage therapists, or any other professional who yearns for a quiet, focused environment with the comforts of home just a few yards away. Other owners use them for activities ranging from exercise and meditation to hobbies and crafts.

Be one of the first in the Northwest to experience the innovative, energy-efficient Back Yard Building!  We’ll see you at the show.
